The Asinara Island became a National Park in 1997. The diving activity with local guides has been allowed since 1999. Dives are possible on both sides, each one presenting very peculiar characteristics.

On the East side, a totally different submarine landscape, very beautiful for snorkelers too: shoals with traces of ancient shipwrecks also from the Roman time, wide beds of posidonia and smaller landslides, where octopusses, dentexes, morays and groupers are easy to find.

On the West side, stretches of indented coast and sheer cliffs offer the divers a marvellous underwater world, among steep slopes and suggestive landslides, long canyons and high pinnacles climbing up to the surface. This is the kingdom of groupers, black umbers, dentexes, forkbeards and lobsters, hiding in the darkest fissures. Among schools of damselfishes and white breams, barracudas swim in the blue.

Auf der Westseite bieten zerklüftete Küstenstreifen und senkrechte Felsen wunderbare Unterwasserwege unter riesigen Bergrutschen, langen Canyons und höhen Türmen an, die die Tiefe zur Oberfläche hinaufklettern. Das ist das Reich von Zackenbarschen, Meerraben, Zahnbrassen, Gabeldorschen und Langusten, die sich in den dunklesten Spalten verbergen. Im Blauen, unter Schwärmen von Mönchfischen und verschiedenartigen Brassen, schwimmen Barrakudas in Schulen.

Auf der Ostseite befindet sich eine ganz andere, auch für Schnorchler geeignete Unterwasserlandschaft: Untiefen mit Spuren von alten Schiffbrüchen sogar der römischen Zeit, breite Posidonia-Wiesen und kleinere Bergrutsche, wo Zackenbarsche, Kraken, Zahnbrassen und Muränen leicht zu finden sind.. Der Experte empfehlt den Tauchgang:

Die Asinara Insel wurde zum Nationalpark im Jahr 1997. Ab 1999 ist die Tauchaktivität mit berechtigten Guides erlaubt. Tauchgänge sind auf beiden Seiten möglich, jede mit ihren eigenen Besonderheiten.
